What other songs have lyrics that run through all the days of the week? (Please quote the relevant lyrics!) What was the point of reciting all the days?

Flipping through TV channels, I caught Tom Hanks in "You Got Mail" imitating "The Godfather" when Michael Corleone's Italian wife shows off her English: "Monday Tuesday Thursday Wednesday Friday Sunday Saturday".

Then I heard Craig David's "Seven Days", which goes:

I met this girl on Monday
took her for a drink on Tuesday
we were making love by Wednesday
and on Thursday & Friday & Saturday we chilled on Sunday

Point of lyrics: Craig David is an extremely efficient lover.

Last night Mandy Moore appeared on the Late Show with Jay Leno. She was singing her latest, "I Could Break Your Heart Any Day of the Week", which goes:

I could break your heart any day of the week.
    Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
    Ill make you nervous.
    Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
    Do not disturb us.
Sunday rolls around- but thats another story.
    It gets a little boring.

Point of lyrics: Mandy Moore holds the power in the relationship ... or maybe not!

  2. Bruce Springsteen-Without You

    Monday, I go to work
    Tuesday, can't find my shirt
    Wednesday, I'm feelin' blue
    I'm helpless, darlin'
    Without you, without you
    Without you, without you
    Thursdays, everything's fine
Friday, I'm out of my mind
Friday, I'm out of my mind
    Saturday, Sunday too
    It's hopeless, darlin'
    Without you, without you
    Without you, without you

Each and every night of the week
I toss and turn in my sleep
    Worryin' if you're all right
    Wonderin' where you are tonight

  3. The Clash "Police on my Back"

I've been runnin' Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday..."

    Sorta self-explanatory.

  4. If you don't have to go thru *all* the days of the week, there's always "Lady Madonna", if the children of those days count. If not, never mind!

(I assume the lyrics are burnt into everyone's memory...)

  5. The Cure - Friday I'm In Love

    I don't care if Monday's blue
    Tuesday's grey and Wednesday too
Thursday I don't care about you
    It's Friday, I'm in love

    Monday you can fall apart
    Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
    Oh, Thursday doesn't even start
    It's Friday I'm in love

    Saturday, wait
And Sunday always comes too late
    But Friday, never hesitate...

  6. The Fugs-Nothing
    The Scaffold-2 Day's Monday
  7. Dave Edmunds/Nick Lowe - Here Comes the Weekend

    Monday ain't a fun day
    Tuesday's a goof day
    Wednesdays are frenzy
    Thursday's the worst day
    Friday is great
'Cause I can hardly wait until the weekend

I should be clockin' in at eight
    But I'm a little late
Can't get my baby 'cause I'm too tired to date
Treat you tender when it's Friday again
    Here comes the weekend

    Here comes the weekend
    Here comes the weekend
    My working week's so tough
I think I've had enough until the weekend

I've had an overdose of doctor's notes
But it just don't ease the pain
Goin' on the sick, don't do the trick
Sooner or later I'll be clockin' in again

Working 'round the clock both night and day
Never see enough from a tip or pay
They pay me for the shift like they was scooping a gift
    Here come the weekend

From Edmunds 'Get It' album (great album BTW)

  8. Shirelles - I Met Him On A Sunday
  9. Oatsdad

Oatsdad Oat, Biscuits, Abbie & Mitzi: Best Dogs Ever

    "Seven Nights to Rock":

"Monday- We're gonna go to school
Tuesday- we're gonna swim at the pool
    Wednesday- Go to the library
    Thursday- be with my family
Friday- play in the big sandbox
    Saturday and Sunday, everybody rocks!"

Springsteen did it live and changed the lyrics a bunch:

    "Monday, at sister Suzy's ball
Tuesday, at the old dance hall
Wednesday, at the road house inn
    Thursday, at the lion's den
    Friday, at the chatter box
    Saturday and Sunday, everybody rocks"

    And also:

"Monday, I'm gonna rock with Jane
    Tuesday, it's gonna be Lorraine
    Wednesday, I'm taking Nancy Lee
Thursday, it's Betty Lou and me
Friday, I'm gonna jive with Sue
Saturday and Sunday, any chick will do"

  10. "Lady Madonna" mentions every day of the week except Saturday.

"Never on Sunday" mentions them all.

With my typing skills it takes too long to type all the lyrics. :)

P.S. Oops,. sallymae beat me to the punch with Lady Madonna.

  11. Cheepnik

    Cheepnik Overfed long-haired leaping gnome

    Close but not quite:

Johnny Cash, "I Got Stripes" (Monday through Thursday)
The Easybeats, "Friday on My Mind" (Monday through Friday)

  12. Simon & Garfunkel - "Why Don't You Write Me"

Only covers Monday thru Friday. Probably no mail delivery on Saturday back then.

  13. Surly

    "Saturday Love" - Cherrelle & Alexander O'Neal
  14. U2 - Daddy's gonna pay for your crashed car
  15. Fats Domino - Blue Monday
  16. Lucy Mae Blues--Frankie Lee Sims
My Monday Woman Blues -- Jim Johnson
  17. From Wikipedia....

"The Diary of Horace Wimp" is the title of track four on the Electric Light Orchestra album Discovery, written by Jeff Lynne.

Released in 1979 as a single, the song is Beatlesque in nature and became a Top Ten hit in the UK and Ireland. The lyrics take us through a week in the life of an oppressed man who nevertheless overcomes his shy nature with the help of "a voice from above".
The day Saturday is omitted – this is because, as explained by Jeff Lynne: "'The football match is played on a Saturday"."

  18. Sting / "Seven Days"

  20. first song on The Who Sell Out
  21. Neil Sedaka-- Let's Go Steady Again
  22. Queen - In Only Seven Days

Monday the start of my holiday
    Freedom for just one week
Feels good to get away ooh

Tuesday saw her down on the beach
I stood and watched a while
And she looked and smiled at me

    Wednesday I didn't see her
I hoped that she'd be back tomorrow
    And then on Thursday
    My luck had changed
    She stood there all alone
I went and asked her name
I never thought that this could happen to me
    In only seven days
It would take a hundred or more
    For memories to fade

I wish Friday could last forever
I held her close to me
I couldn't bear to leave her there

    Saturday just twenty four hours
Oh no I'm goin' back home on Sunday

    I'm so sad alone
